When Your Panel Needs an Upgrade

Older homes typically have 100-amp service, which was fine decades ago. Now with electric vehicles, heat pumps, hot tubs, and all the devices we use daily, that's often not enough. We upgrade panels to handle modern electrical demands - and replace panels that are outdated or unsafe. Every upgrade includes proper permits and passes inspection.

Amperage Increases

Adding an EV charger, heat pump, or shop equipment usually means upgrading from 100A to 200A service. This gives you room for new loads without maxing out your panel.

  • • 100A to 200A service upgrades (most common)
  • • 200A to 400A for large homes or facilities
  • • New service entrance cable and weather head
  • • Meter base replacement
  • • Grounding system upgrade
  • • Utility coordination and inspection

Unsafe Panel Replacement

Federal Pacific, Zinsco, and some older panels are fire hazards. If you have one, we'll replace it with a modern, safe panel - even if you don't need more capacity.

  • • Federal Pacific panel replacement
  • • Zinsco panel replacement
  • • Outdated fuse box upgrades
  • • Corroded or damaged panel replacement
  • • Modern circuit breaker panels
  • • AFCI and GFCI protection installation

Sub-Panel Installation

Adding a garage, workshop, or separate building? A sub-panel gives you local circuit distribution without running every circuit back to the main panel.

  • • Detached garage sub-panels
  • • Workshop and outbuilding panels
  • • Home addition sub-panels
  • • Proper feeder sizing and installation
  • • Ground rod installation where required

Commercial Panel Upgrades

Business expanding? Adding equipment? We upgrade commercial panels and service entrance equipment to handle increased electrical loads.

  • • 200A to 400A+ service upgrades
  • • Three-phase power installation
  • • Distribution panel additions
  • • Transformer installation
  • • Switchgear and disconnect upgrades

Signs You Need a Panel Upgrade

  • • Breakers trip when you run multiple appliances
  • • Lights dim when AC or other equipment starts
  • • You have a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel
  • • Panel has scorch marks or smells like burning
  • • You're adding an EV charger, heat pump, or pool
  • • You have a fuse box instead of breakers
  • • Panel is over 40 years old
  • • No room in panel for new circuits

What's Involved in a Panel Upgrade

1. Load Calculation: We figure out what size service you actually need based on existing and planned loads.

2. Utility Coordination: If you're increasing service size, the utility company needs to upgrade their equipment. We handle that coordination.

3. Permit & Inspection: All panel upgrades require permits. We pull the permits and schedule inspections.

4. Installation: We disconnect power, remove the old panel, install the new one, reconnect circuits, and restore power. Usually takes 4-8 hours.

5. Final Inspection: Inspector verifies everything's done correctly. Once approved, the utility reconnects power permanently.
